Christmas Exhibition “Giuseppe Ercolano and the Masters of the Nativity” in Sorrento

From 1 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, in the charming setting of Villa Fiorentino in Sorrento (located just over 20 kilometres from our boutique hotel), the Christmas exhibition “Giuseppe Ercolano and the Masters of the Nativity” will be held, celebrating 25 years of work by Giuseppe Ercolano, a master of contemporary nativity scene art. Through his works and those of other master craftsmen, the exhibition allows visitors and enthusiasts to discover how the typical representation of the Nativity has adapted to the times, while remaining firmly anchored to its core element: respect for the story told in the Bible. The exhibition arrives in Sorrento after its extraordinary success in Tremezzina (one of the most popular tourist destinations on Lake Como), where it enchanted thousands of visitors at Palazzo Brentano as part of the annual exhibition “I Grandi Maestri del Presepe” (The Great Masters of the Nativity Scene).

The exhibition is divided into three sections. The first, “The 18th-Century Neapolitan Nativity“, bears witness to the artistic legacy left by the rulers of the Kingdom of Naples and the ability of contemporary masters, such as Ercolano, to renew it while keeping the traditional techniques of the Neapolitan school intact. The second, “Italian Nativity Traditions“, offers a comparison between different schools, styles and visions, highlighting the richness of Italian craftsmanship and the ability to reinterpret the Nativity through different materials and languages. The third, “The Charm of Paper Nativity Scenes“, is a collection of chromolithographs, lithographs and paper nativity scenes from the 19th and 20th centuries, enriched by a life-size painted nativity scene and an educational video.
