The 2025 Chestnut Festival in Scala

On the weekends of 11-12 and 18-19 October 2025, Scala will host the 48th edition of the Chestnut Festival, one of the most eagerly awaited events on the Amalfi Coast. The festival, organised by the Municipality of Scala in collaboration with the Pro Loco Association and other local associations, is a tribute to the fruit that symbolises the area (the so-called “Marroni di Scala”) and all the traditions that accompany it.

During the event, visitors will be able to taste numerous chestnut-based delicacies, as well as other local specialities. However, the festival is not limited to tasting typical products. One of the highlights is the Palio delle Contrade, a tournament in which young people from the six districts of Scala (Campidoglio, Minuta, San Pietro, Santa Caterina, Pontone and Scala Centro) compete in ancient popular games from Scala (such as cerchio, strummolo, sack races, trocchiello and tug-of-war). But the most eagerly awaited moment is undoubtedly the donkey race, in which “jockeys” ride bareback in an exciting, adrenaline-fuelled competition in the heart of the village that keeps everyone in suspense until the very last metre.

This year, the festival is part of the project ‘La Magia degli Elementi. Itinerari tra luce, acqua ed artigianato locale’, which invites residents and tourists to discover the Amalfi Coast in all seasons. In addition to the traditional events, there will be some special events.

Saturday 11 October – Dance Tarantella
An evening dedicated to popular music from Campania: Dance Tarantella will bring the irresistible rhythm of the tammorra and Mediterranean sounds that express the soul of the South to Scala. With pizziche, tarantelle and group dances, the audience will be swept away on a musical journey that unites generations and cultures.

Saturday, 18 October – Emiliana Cantone and Mr. Hyde
A double performance that blends melody and modern rhythm. Emiliana Cantone, one of Campania’s most beloved singers with her intense and passionate voice, together with Mr. Hyde, a fusion of pop and contemporary sounds, will bring to life a thrilling concert, full of energy and engagement.

Sundays for children
This year, Sunday mornings will be dedicated entirely to children. Workshops, games and creative activities will allow young people to immerse themselves in the autumn atmosphere of Scala in a fun and engaging way.
