The Municipal Villa of Vietri sul Mare

The Municipal Villa of Vietri sul Mare, also known as Parco Solimene, is one of the most evocative and captivating places along the Amalfi Coast. Located at the end of Corso Umberto I, just a short walk from the Ceramica Artistica Solimene Factory—one of the most significant architectural works of the 20th century—it is much more than a simple public park. It is a true gem overlooking the Gulf of Salerno, offering visitors breathtaking views and a unique atmosphere.

The park is set within the gardens of Villa Carosino. In the 1950s, the villa was donated to the Salesians of Saint John Bosco to host a youth oratory center that is still active today. Later, in 1998, part of the gardens was purchased by the Municipality of Vietri and transformed into the present-day Municipal Villa.

This enchanting place is where the art of ceramics—an art form that has made Vietri famous worldwide—blends harmoniously with the beauty of the Mediterranean landscape. Low walls, handrails, fountains, and benches are entirely covered in colorful Vietri majolica tiles, turning every corner into an elegant artistic composition. The result recalls the prestigious Park Güell by Antoni Gaudí in Barcelona. The comparison is no coincidence: both places share an aesthetic vision that places beauty at the service of public space, transforming an ordinary walk into a rich visual and sensory experience.

The park unfolds across several levels connected by winding pathways. Wherever you turn, the view is literally breathtaking. Your gaze embraces the entire gulf, with the city of Salerno visible on the horizon. Photography lovers will find endless inspiration here, among stunning panoramas, vibrant ceramic details, and ever-changing light throughout the day.

Along the tree-lined paths, visitors reach a small amphitheater with ceramic seating. This scenic space, with the sea as its backdrop, hosts concerts, performances, and cultural events, especially during spring and summer. One of the most anticipated events is “Vietri in Scena”, a festival of music, dance, and theater usually held in July. Walking up along the “Poets’ Avenue”, visitors can read poems dedicated to Vietri, immortalized on ceramic panels created by local artists.

The Municipal Villa of Vietri sul Mare is an unmissable stop not only for its artistic and scenic beauty, but also because it instantly conveys the soul of this charming town: ceramic craftsmanship, tradition, a deep connection with the sea, and the ability to transform a simple park into a symbol of creativity and local identity. It is worth visiting in the morning, when the soft light enhances the colors of the ceramics, or at sunset, when the sky turns warm shades and the sea reflects the last glow of the day.
