Joan Mirò exhibition in Sorrento
From 29 May to 9 November 2025, the elegant halls of Villa Fiorentino in Sorrento (located about 20 kilometres from our boutique hotel) will host an unmissable exhibition on the fantastic, dreamlike and feverishly creative world of Joan Miró, entitled ‘Joan Miró – the dreammaker’.
A Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramist, Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma de Mallorca, 1983) left an indelible mark on 20th century art, influencing generations of creative people with his dreamlike language and daring use of colour. Art, his, founded not so much on the traditional image as on sensations, immediate emotions and suggestions. In his paintings bright colours and strong contrasts, fine lines and hallucinated subjects translate a world that, while on the one hand seems profoundly linked to his homeland, on the other hand he makes a tabula rasa of past tradition, ‘rewriting’ an unprecedented and entirely personal aesthetic path.
Curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, in collaboration with Stefano Oliviero, the exhibition narrates the figure of Joan Mirò through about 80 works including paintings, temperas, watercolours, drawings, sculptures and ceramics, as well as a series of graphic works, books and documents. The exhibition also features an important section of photos and videos that recount the private and public life of the great Catalan master.
