Maiori Nativity Scene Art Exhibition, 2025-2026 edition
Among the events not to be missed if you want to immerse yourself in the Christmas atmosphere of the Amalfi Coast is undoubtedly the Maiori Nativity Scene Art Exhibition, a well-established event now in its twelfth year. The exhibition is scheduled to run from 7 December 2025 to 6 January 2026.
The creations of the members of the Associazione Presepiale Città di Maiori (Maiori Nativity Scene Association), made with great care and skill, are displayed in the evocative setting of the Church of San Francesco, a building that is well worth a visit in its own right. Rebuilt in the 16th century after several destructions, the church, although of Renaissance origin, now has a marked late Rococo style due to the restoration work carried out between the 18th and 20th centuries. Among the most valuable elements inside are the wooden choir decorated by the school of Andrea Sabatino, the 16th-century altar and important paintings such as the Coronation of the Virgin with Saints Anthony and Bernardino by Giovanni da Gaeta, the Deposition by Andrea Sabatino, the Ascension by D’Errico and the Calvary by the Flemish school (1400-1500).
The association, active since May 2011, brings together over twenty members, including exhibiting members (set designers, painters, mosaicists and modellers), ordinary members and founding members. Alongside the works of its affiliates, the exhibition also hosts works by artists from different areas of Campania.
