The 2026 Chestnut Festival in Scala
On the weekends of 10–11 and 17–18 October 2026, Scala will host the 49th edition of the Chestnut Festival, a historic event dedicated to the prized Marroni chestnuts of Scala. Despite their name, botanically they are closer to traditional chestnuts: unlike Marroni, they are not particularly large and have a distinctive flattened shape on one side. Organised by the Scala, Città del Castagno Association in collaboration with the Municipality of Scala, it is one of the most eagerly awaited events of autumn on the Amalfi Coast.
The festival takes place over four days packed with activities designed to appeal to both adults and children. The undisputed star will, of course, be the chestnut, featured in numerous traditional dishes: from roasted chestnuts to desserts, from jam to tarts, as well as dishes such as chestnut gnocchetti with butter and sage, chickpea, chestnut and mushroom soup, and chestnut meatloaf. Other local specialities will also be available.
The festival, however, is about much more than food. The programme also includes live music, shows and DJ sets, as well as traditional games such as ring games, strummolo spinning tops, sack races, trocchiello and tug-of-war. These activities will take place across Scala’s six districts (Campidoglio, Minuta, San Pietro, Santa Caterina, Pontone and Scala Centro), alongside the charming donkey race.
