Where to buy local food and products on the Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a destination to discover through its landscapes, the narrow streets winding through its villages and the traditions passed down from generation to generation. Among these traditions, local food culture holds a special place, reflecting a region where the sea meets the mountains and cultivated terraces tell the story of the local communities’ patient work. The typical products of the Amalfi Coast capture distinctive aromas and flavours, from lemons and cheese to extra virgin olive oil, preserves and artisanal liqueurs.

Buying directly from producers offers a closer insight into this rich heritage and allows you to take home something more meaningful than an ordinary souvenir. Here are five places recommended by Slow Food where you can buy some of the Amalfi Coast’s finest food products.

La Fattoria del Castello – Agerola

Set amid the green landscapes of the Lattari Mountains, La Fattoria del Castello is much more than a dairy: it is a small farm that preserves the rhythms and flavours of times gone by. Here, freshly milked milk is skilfully processed to create high-quality cheeses and dairy products. Their secret? Fresh milk, experience and the passion of a family that loves what they do. At the farm shop, visitors can purchase their products and enjoy dishes prepared to order. Alongside cheese and dairy products, the selection includes other local specialities, such as cured meats. The farm also offers the Milk Experience, a workshop that introduces visitors to the various stages of dairy production and gives them the chance to try their hand at making mozzarella, followed by a tasting.

Azienda Agricola Le Formichelle – Tramonti

Inland from the Amalfi Coast, Tramonti preserves a strong agricultural tradition, with vineyards, cultivated hillsides and small producers who make the most of local resources. One of them is Azienda Agricola Le Formichelle, a family-run business that produces and sells locally sourced products with a low environmental impact. Its name pays tribute to the women who once travelled along unpaved mountain paths and climbed the long stairways of the Amalfi Coast carrying heavy baskets filled with lemons on their heads. They were known as formichelle, meaning “little ants”, in recognition of their tireless hard work. Visitors can buy lemons, traditional liqueurs, homemade jams and extra virgin olive oil directly from the farm.

Agricola Fore Porta – Amalfi

Located in the heart of the Valle delle Ferriere, just a few minutes from Amalfi town centre, Agricola Fore Porta is an organic agritourism farm. Founded in the 1970s thanks to Grandfather Luigi’s passion for the land, it has grown through the efforts of the entire family, who have transformed a story of hard work and sacrifice into a business dedicated to preserving local traditions and promoting the area. The cultivation of Sfusato Amalfitano PGI lemons lies at the heart of its production, alongside the sale and tasting of other locally sourced products, including vegetables, honey, jams and liqueurs with distinctive aromas and flavours. To reach the farm, visitors follow a path through a landscape where nature reveals all its beauty.

Azienda Agricola Aceto Salvatore – Amalfi

Also in Amalfi, at the entrance to the Valle delle Ferriere, lies Azienda Agricola Aceto Salvatore. The farm’s story began back in 1825, when Salvatore Aceto purchased a small plot of land in Ravello. Since then, six generations of the family have devoted themselves to cultivating Amalfi Coast lemons, passing down the knowledge and traditions associated with this iconic local fruit. Over the years, the business has received numerous awards and certifications, recognising its work and commitment to promoting local produce. Alongside lemon cultivation, the family has also developed a beekeeping project in its lemon groves, resulting in the production of excellent honey made from lemon blossoms.

Valentì – Positano

Positano is known not only for its colourful houses, beaches and sea views: its food culture also offers products worth discovering and taking home. Among the places recommended by Slow Food is Valentì, one of the Amalfi Coast’s best-known producers, renowned for its ability to transform local ingredients into small culinary masterpieces, with meticulous attention to every detail. The business specialises in jams, including lemon, mandarin, orange and mixed citrus varieties, as well as liqueurs. The standout product is, of course, limoncello, prepared according to a closely guarded, age-old family recipe. The range also includes a selection of other organic products, available according to the season.
