The Grand Carnival of Maiori 2024
From 11 to 18 February 2024 in Maiori, a charming town about 15 kilometers from our boutique hotel, the 50th edition of the Gran Carnivale Maiorese is scheduled, the most important carnival event on the Amalfi Coast, which every year attracts a large number of visitors and curious people. During these festive days the whole town is tinged with the magic of the carnival.
Much of the fame of the Maiori carnival is due to the skill and imagination of the master papier-mâché makers, who every year create wonderful allegorical floats with a majestic scenic impact. Their imposing size and richness of detail make them the protagonists of the party. As stated on the official website of the event: “Nothing is born from diamonds… the colors of the Grand Carnival of Maiori are born from iron and papier-mâché“. The appointment with the “papier-mâché giants”, as some have defined them, is on the occasion of the parades of the five monumental works on the Maiori seafront.
During the parades, the allegorical floats are accompanied by their dance groups, made up not only of individual enthusiasts but of entire families and groups of friends, also coming from neighboring countries. Because without the allegorical floats there is no Carnival, but without the music and dancing there is no fun! The event program also includes a wide range of unmissable events for the whole family.
Every year the event is dedicated to a theme around which ideas, sketches and sketches can revolve. In 2024 the various associations will tackle the theme “The Roots”. With “Italy Love” the RIO Association will present Italian cuisine as a love story because “first you have to fall in love with the products and then with the people who cook”. The gli Amici di Sempre Association will tell “Il Belpaese dei Balocchi” through the fairy tale of Pinocchio, one of the greatest literary masterpieces, capable of conquering adults and children alike. The Gli Invisibili Association will try its hand at “Ferrari nel Mondo“, whose main character will be the founder of the well-known car manufacturer. The Diapason Association “I Nuovi Pazzi” will present “Grand Tour“, which will be the visual embodiment of the indissoluble bond between the grand tour and the iconic Fiat 500. And finally the I Monelli Association will give spectators “Galileo dei giorni Nostri“, with the great Italian genius who will be represented sitting on the Colosseum because it was precisely during his stay in Rome that the difficult relationship between his scientific theories and those of Catholic orthodoxy took shape.
