Where to eat lemon granita on the Amalfi Coast

When summer arrives and the heat is on, there is nothing better than a lemon granita to cool down. Especially on the Amalfi Coast, home of sfusato amalfitano, where it is always the right time to treat yourself to one. Just three ingredients – water, sugar and lemons – are enough to create a drink that encapsulates the history of this sun-kissed strip of land.

Below is a selection of the best addresses on the Amalfi Coast where to eat lemon granita.

A’ Sciulia

Gelataria A’ Sciulia is a veritable institution for slush lovers. Located in a characteristic alleyway in the heart of Amalfi‘s historic centre (Via Fra Gerardo Sasso 2), it is run by the Laudano brothers, who grew up on bread and lemons. They handcraft granitas and sorbets using only lemons from their own terraces. In addition to granitas and sorbets, you can also find fruit salads, smoothies and yoghurt. It also has another shop in Piazza Duomo (also in Amalfi) called Sporta della Marina.

Bar La Risacca

A must-try is the lemon granita of the La Risacca bar. It is located in the charming Piazza Umberto I in Atrani, at the foot of the evocative staircase of the Church of San Salvatore de’ Birecto (which is definitely worth a visit for its remarkable decoration). Run by the Rispoli family, it provides a characteristic atmosphere overlooking the alleys and houses of the village. It uses only the juice of the sfusato amalfitano to create its granita. The tartness of the lemon and the sweetness of the sugar blend in a symphony of flavours capable of delighting anyone’s palate.

Sal De Riso pastry shop

Another must for lemon granita lovers is Pasticceria Sal De Riso (at Via Roma 80 in Minori) of the famous Minori pastry chef Salvatore De Riso, member of the Accademia dei Maestri Pasticceri since 1994 and Pastry Chef of the Year 2010-2011. The granita, like all Sal De Riso desserts, is prepared using only the best raw materials in the area and, in the case of lemon desserts, only IGP Costa D’Amalfi lemons. The perfectly smooth texture and refreshing taste of his lemon granita are the result of an art handed down through generations.

Fruit Passion

Another name to mark down is that of the Fruit Passion ice-cream parlour in Ravello, run by sisters Vittoria and Rita Cioffi. It is located at number 7 Via Santissima Trinità, just a few steps from Ravello Cathedral (one of the most beautiful churches on the coast) and the famous Villa Rufolo. Their lemon granita is irresistible. Made with sugar, water, lemon juice and zest, it is characterised by small fragments of jacchio. In addition to the granitas, you can find excellent ice creams, milkshakes, yoghurts, crepes and fruit cups.

Lemon Point

The list of the best addresses on the Amalfi Coast where to eat lemon granita would not be complete without mentioning the smoothie and juice bar Lemon Point. The small kiosk of the friendly Antonino De Simone, bred on bread and sfusato amalfitano, is located on Via Santa Croce in Nocelle (the highest and oldest hamlet of Positano), at the end of the Sentiero degli Dei (one of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world). Its granita, prepared with freshly squeezed lemons, is considered by many to be the best on the entire Amalfi Coast.
